All Education Facilities Complete
Bainbridge College Early County Campus is the latest addition to
SGRITA’s network. Previously this community college of over 1,200
students had to rely on 1.5 Mbps connection for all its operations. They
now have access up to 100Mbps.
With the addition of Bainbridge College Early County Campus to our network, SGRITA has met another of its interim goals of bringing world class broadband Internet connectivity to all of our education facilities. This is a milestone for SGRITA because improving access for our educational facilities is part of our core mission; to move our region to the top 1% in the world for broadband Internet access.
Last year SGRITA moved our public schools from the bottom 3% in the state to the top 1% in world ranking for speed and bandwidth access. With the other educational facilities in the area such as University of Georgia research facilities and the Joseph W. Jones Ecological Research Center at Ichauway (www.jonesctr.org) also on SGRITA’s network, we can truly say SGRITA is making a difference in our community.
SGRITA continues to work to bring broadband Internet service to all our rural homes and businesses. This is the hardest and most detailed part of our mission. SGRITA has made investments in 700MHz spectrum and has started purchasing equipment to accomplish this mission. With hard work, the goal of providing true broadband service to all our homes will also soon be accomplished.

C.M. Stripling Irrigation Research Park
In addition to providing broadband Internet access to the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences’ C.M. Stripling Irrigation Research Park in Mitchell County; SGRITA has also installed a Network Camera so researches can remotely monitor activity at the facility.
SGRITA install the Park’s AXIS 215 PTZ Network Camera high up on one of our core network towers near their facility to allow a live view of the SIRP farm. Researchers can adjust the view of the farm from their desktop using the camera's controls.
SGRITA is proud to donate access to our tower and connectivity for this camera in order to advance the important agricultural research conducted at this facility.
Learn more about the C.M. Stripling Irrigation Research Park and see views from the camera at http://www.nespal.org/SIRP/.

Fiscal Milestone Reached
SGRITA has reached a fiscal milestone this month by exceeding $1,000,000 in annual revenue! This is an extraordinary event given not quite a year has passed since we “turned on” our network. And even more important, SGRITA has operated at a profit since inception. SGRITA is a county technology authority which uses very conservative fiscal controls to insure we never becomes a financial burden for our member Counties.

SGRITA Becomes a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier
SGRITA’s
filing with the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) has been
approved for SGRITA to become a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier, or
CLEC. A CLEC is able to offer competitive telephone service, including
porting or transferring your existing phone number to our network for
VoIP (Voice over Internet Phone) service. This will allow customers to
have their internet and telephone service with one provider. At present
SGRITA will provide VoIP service to schools and governmental offices but
it is our plan to offer this service to businesses and residential
clients in the near future.
